Organized by italian walkers for over 35 runners and walkers from all over Europe. Grosseto is preparing to host next year the European Masters Athletics Championships Non Stadia (EMACNS), which is expected to take place in the Tuscan city by mid-May 2022. Great satisfaction for the LOC President (and president of italian athletics team ASD Track and field master Grosseto) Ernesto Croci, a walker of course. These are his words: “A 2-year job that led to the assignment of the event, thanks also to the commitment of FIDAL, with the former President Alfio Giomi, and the decisive support of local institutions. If we are good and work well this year, it can be the largest sport tourism event that has ever been held in Grosseto”.
The interview with Ernesto Croci and Kurt Kaschke
Kurt Kaschke, President of European Masters Athletics (EMA), commented on the assignment to the italian city: “Now we are confident to have a successful event, although in these difficult times. We hope that in one-year time, in 2022, it will be the first post-pandemic international championships on the road for masters and an enjoyable happening”.
Planned 4 competitions days with these events:
– Race Walking men 5Km, 10Km, 30Km
– Race Walking women 5Km, 10Km, 20Km
– Road running men and women 5Km, 10Km and half marathon
Grosseto 2022 logo
The logo of the event (created by the walker Francesco Scafuro ) represents the outline of Grosseto city walls, where the half marathon race will pass. For race walking, the events will take place in the already experienced route inside the Sandro Pertini Park ( Velodrome Guido Montanelli ); a 2km approved circuit perfectly flat, thought from Fabrizio Pezzuto (race walking coach in the italian athletics team Atletica Grosseto), devoid of buoys and optimal to see the progress of the race.
The circuit where race walking events will take place
Given the period of the year (May) and the likely hot that could hinder the athletes’ performance, the organization is planning to schedule the races in the evening; the dream would be a night race, with the municipal administration of Grosseto taking action to evaluate the possibility of increasing the lighting inside the velodrome and making the championship more spectacular.
